FedEx Imposes Limits To Stem Flood Of Deliveries – PYMNTS

FedEx Corp. could be the first major delivery company to limit the number of items retailers can ship to protect its network from being overwhelmed during COVID-19, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Among the two dozen retailers who have been notified by FedEx of the unusual limits include Kohl’s, DSW, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Hobby Lobby, Eddie Bauer and Bed Bath & Beyond.

“These customers have seen significant volume growth since the spread of COVID-19,” FedEx wrote in a notice to its workers reviewed by the WSJ. “In a time of already high-volume growth, capping the number of packages to be picked up at these locations will limit any negative impacts to the FedEx Ground network.”

Neither Snow Nor Rain Nor Coronavirus: Postal Carriers, Delivery Workers Feel Pride Completing Appointed Rounds – CBS

It’s hard work, but Tony Mazzella, a 32-year UPS employee, said the pandemic has given him more purpose.

“Every package is important. I take my job seriously, but when I deliver to a hospital I feel a great sense of pride and know that’s it’s something that is essential. We deliver stuff that’s actually like critical to customers,” Mazzella said.

To stay socially distant, UPS and USPS are not requiring customers to sign for packages right now.

Mazzella said he misses that connection.

Jack Mahar loves delivery trucks and the people who drive them.

The kindergartener at Hillside Elementary in Niskayuna, N.Y., had a delivery-themed fifth birthday party and one of the first words he learned to write was “UPS,” according to his mom, Amanda Mahar.

Jack has gotten to see a whole lot of UPS Inc., FedEx Corp. and USPS trucks these days. Like every student across the country, Jack’s home is now school. Couple that with the fact home deliveries have increased drastically as consumers rely heavily on internet shopping and he’s basically guaranteed to see one — or many — of his favorite trucks each afternoon.

Coronavirus kills several FedEx workers at Newark facility – Fox

Several FedEx Corp. workers at the company’s Newark, N.J., air hub have died due to complications of the coronavirus, a sign of the toll that the outbreak has taken on front-line delivery workers.

The outbreak among FedEx workers has prompted questions from New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, who wrote to FedEx Chairman and CEO Fred Smith about safety protocols at the delivery giant.

A FedEx spokeswoman declined to comment on the number of cases and fatalities in the facility at the Newark Liberty International Airport. She said the number of cases among the workers there isn’t unusual given the large outbreak in New Jersey and New York. It is one of six FedEx air hubs in the U.S. and has around 2,100 employees.
