The baby mortality rate was more than just a bit higher back then not to mention the number of mother's who died in child birth and an overall life expectancy about a third less than today. The women of America in that time had it a lot rougher, few job opportunities, almost no chance at a higher education, no access to birth control many physically and sexually abused  and they're not going back to that life again. That much is clearly evidenced in today's birth numbers which shows that the US birth rate is the lowest in 32 years and impacts all age groups except those 35 and older. They've got power, education and money and they're not going to thwart  all attempts to take it from them.</p></blockquote><p></p>
