A huge asteroid hit the planet by what is now the Yucatan peninsula. Not conjecture. The fact is you can't make the archeological record jibe with 8000 or so years of Biblical history. The Grand Canyon didn't form in 8000 years. The fact is every culture has a creation story. We have accepted the Jewish story because they were one of the first with a written language and the lineage of Jesus is traced back to David and even further to Seth. My point about the population is this, that many have never, and will never hear about Jesus. According to ministers like my own father that's just too bad for them. The argument being they're in their predicament because at some point their ancestors rejected God. Always thought the sins of the father didn't transfer to the child. And God already knows that most won't enter heaven. By our own teaching most claiming Christianity won't even make it to heaven. As in most things in life I suspect that a big one was pulled over our eyes. Behave in this life, obey authority, and you'll be rewarded in the next life. And yes, God knows that most won't enter into heaven yet he allows the population of the eventually damned to grow ever larger. That's not a just, loving God. I do believe we are governed by Biblical law and can lose our souls if we don't follow it. But what of the billions who don't ever have the chance to learn that law? Yes, I'm conflicted. And there was a time when like you it seemed clear, cut, and dried. All that being said I don't think any other figure in history has been as transformative as Jesus. I believe he's the Son of God, and we must follow him to have the best life possible, and to enter into heaven. And as Jerry Falwell once said, if when I die I find that there's no God, no heaven, my life will be infinitely better because I followed Christ. But I do believe that much in Genesis is men with primitive technology trying to explain their world and how it came to be. Don't think we do ourselves any favors blindly following that.
