Here are some stats from the Bureau of Justice - these stats are from 2000 So far I have not been able to get current stats AZ - Hispanic = 14% of sworn officers or 147 CA - = 15% or 1002 officers TX - = 22% or 686 NM - = 40% or 210 Here is how my city handles undocumented aliens - I got this info from an article in the local paper published in Sedona. When the police have contact with an undocumented they tell the person to seek out their national consulate. The poll that was conducted by the same local paper stated that 72% of the respondents were for the new law. The poll is from locals who read the paper. Our new Sedona Police Chief was just hired in April. He is a Hispanic Police Captain from Corona California. I trust him to do his job and uphold the law. I guess there are 3 or 4 factions to this law.... 1. Hispanics and those sympathetic who believe that racial profiling will take place. Here is the irony - My personal observation from interviews done with most Hispanics (not all) about this law, show a common thread of racism and disdain toward whites. As far as they are concerned this is a law about oppression against all Hispanics at the hands of the white man. You can here it and feel it in their voice, see it in their face and body language and in the words they choose. The air is thick with entitlement. Hispanics also do not trust law enforcement. 2. Citizens who believe in upholding the law and closing the border to illegal traffic. - Unfortunately, here is AZ, 94% of the estimated 500,000 residents (mostly families) are from Mexico. It is not about race. It is about crime - drugs - gangs - safety - jobs - over population and taxpayers paying the way with a budget that cannot sustain paying the way. 3. Those who want to push their political agenda and don't really care or understand the war on the border AND don't live here or live it everyday! My question is this. Why is it up to America to coddle and take care of Mexicans because of Mexico's inability to take care of their own citizens?
