It works both ways. Where I am we have classification seniority. It sucks. I got beat out for a job by someone I have 7 years more company time than. But what people forget is, it goes the other way also. There are a lot of 20+ year package drivers, that won’t go to feeders because they don’t want to go all the way to the bottom of the seniority list. So somewhere that has classification seniority, it affords the right of newer (less than 10 years) package drivers to move to feeders because high seniority package drivers won’t go. If it was company seniority where I am, there’s no telling, I might still be in package. I’ve spoken to feeder drivers in locals where it’s company. It’s a 20 year wait to get to feeders. We have package drivers with less than 5 years coming to feeders. In the last 18 months we’ve had 3 or 4, 25+ year package drivers come to feeders. From the cushiest package route in the center, to working the worst possible hours in feeders, with the worst equipment. That’s a bitter pill to swallow. I give them credit. My blood would be boiling, taking a peek at the seniority list and seeing someone with 12 months with the company, in front of me.
