Thanks DaveI'm pretty sure server space is by the year. Now the forum software could be different, but not likely. When the site goes down every June-July that appears to be server.

She may have to renew the forum software also then. I would guess if she doesn't find a buyer she may let it go next renewal time which wouldn't make much sense I mean something is better than nothing right?View attachment 526745
I noticed this copyright date just after the site came back online. Found it curious.
She seems to have a different idea of how this works. Again it’s her choice. She owns it. Sounds like she’s been offered a reasonable amount for a very broken site that needs a lot of work. She may have to renew the forum software also then. Like I said better something than nothing. Quite possible she will wait to see if there are any other bids before it's renewal time. She seems to have a different idea of how this works. I bet Dave is hard at work right nowLike I said better something than nothing. Quite possible she will wait to see if there are any other bids before its renewal time.
It's not extremely hard to make a site(for me it is)if you have good computer skills My son built a Toyota site for me many years ago while he was still in high school.I think she's lucky the stupid working people on this site can't make their own site.
Cuz we'd all be gone, and this site would be dead.
I'd like to know what he thinks about the sale of this place? I'm sure whatever he thinks it'd be stupid.I bet Dave is hard at work right now
The guy is probably a blast at parties!!I'd like to know what he thinks about the sale of this place? I'm sure whatever he thinks it'd be stupid.
Handing out his H&R Block business cards. That is if anyone ever invites him to a party. The guy is probably a blast at parties!!
I’d throw him through a window if I saw him at a party. The guy is probably a blast at parties!!
@BadIdeaGuyIf keeping this site is important to you guys, you’re obviously at the mercy of the owners and what they charge, but it will also get to the point where they can either get something for it, or nothing, so it’s almost a game of chicken right now, and both sides have their cards.
However, the only thing of value that they have is the posting history. Thats where you need to decide how much that is worth to you
If it’s not worth it, you can create an exact replica of this site for only a couple hundred bucks. I can help with information if anyone wants to go further, I’ve made some forums in the past
Browncafe seems to use a forum software called XenForo. The licensing fee for it costs $160, which includes a year of support and updates, and to renew those it costs $55 a year
Web hosting should be around $10 - $20 a month, no more than $40
As for the layout of the site, you can get free templates and compare to other forums, or if you want the exact same custom layout copy of this site it would be a one time fee, probably averaging about $500, maybe a little more a little less but nothing crazy
Don’t let them fleece you guys for a crazy amount of money. It seems complicated, but it’s not, I made these sites when I was a punk kid in junior high.
Dave would prefer leasing.I'd like to know what he thinks about the sale of this place? I'm sure whatever he thinks it'd be stupid.
Some of this post is true, but it is very much overoptimistic. If keeping this site is important to you guys, you’re obviously at the mercy of the owners and what they charge, but it will also get to the point where they can either get something for it, or nothing, so it’s almost a game of chicken right now, and both sides have their cards.

They’re trying to charge an exuberant amount of money for the site though right? Some of this post is true, but it is very much overoptimistic.
Xenforo costs roughly 325 bucks to get the plugins necessary to run this site.
Web hosting runs at least a hundred dollars a month here as of right now. I know who their provider is, and my understanding is we are on dedicated hardware. And the kicker? The site is still struggling with the load. Put this onto shared hosting, and we couldn't handle 1/10th of the database the site has.
Cloudflare alone is running this site 25 dollars a month.
All of the fringe stuff you aren't thinking about for scaling is what ends up killing you.
There are ten recurring bills that are required to keep the lights on here.
The content in the database, the domain authority, the established relationship with Adsense, and the massive backlinking as well as brand recognition. They’re trying to charge an exuberant amount of money for the site though right?
You know what you’re talking about so you’ll be good handling it, but I meant that you can get an exact replica of this site up and running pretty dang cheap and easy, way cheaper than the crazy prices I saw being discussed (if true)
You could get away on a leaner and cheaper site at first because I imagine it will be less users at first but you’re right, the more that come will be higher monthly costs, but that would have to be paid for regardless even if you bought this site from the owners for the crazy price, right?
unless I’m missing something, the only value for their crazy prices I saw being thrown around is for the past posts on here, but those same maintenance costs would have to be paid after regardless to keep the site up
If I were you I would study this before the negotiations are overThe content in the database, the domain authority, the established relationship with Adsense, and the massive backlinking as well as brand recognition.
Negotiations are... Ongoing.
