"Orange production in the three major orange producing regions—Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S.—has been flat to declining over the past three years," David Branch, Wells Fargo Agri-Food Institute Sector Manager, told Newsweek.
Sao Paulo and Minas Gerais, which produce the most oranges in Brazil, are forecast to harvest 232.38 million 40.8-kg boxes this year, according to Reuters, citing Fundecitrus data. That is a drop of about 24 percent and the lowest haul since 1988-89.

The declines have led some in the industry to contemplate switching to mandarins for juice making.
