demonstration

And I agree to the last 2 responses. There is a fine line to draw, and it's not simple. Work or volunteer for welfare would be a good start.
Yes it would be a good start. If I'm not mistaken there has been more than one C9 suggest that before.

Dem Rep. Barbara Lee Acknowledges Violence Committed By Occupy Oakland, Says She Supports Movement Anyway…

Groan.
(The Hill) — Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) said Monday that city officials need to support Occupy protest demonstrations until the movement finds its identity.

“The Occupy movement nationally supports closing all the disparities, the income gap, the inequality that has permeated now our country,” Lee told San Francisco’s local ABC affiliate. “We want to make sure that the goals of this movement are heard and that people get that support.”

Lee said she believes the movement’s agenda and leadership will come in time and that city officials need to work with the protesters to find a strategy to balance free speech and public safety.

“We don’t know how it ends. What I don’t want to see in Oakland and throughout the country is a movement becomes stifled,” Lee said. Lee represents Oakland, Calif. where demonstrators have been camped in front of City Hall for several weeks.

“No one wants to destroy or hurt small businesses, the port or the truckers. If you ask me, they’re part of the 99.8 percent,” Lee said, referring to the movement’s “We are the 99 percent” motto, a response to their criticism of the wealthiest 1 percent of people.

The Oakland City Council debated on Monday whether to continue to allow the Occupy Oakland camp to remain indefinitely. Lee argued that protesters should be allowed to stay. Lee has maintained staunch support of the Occupy Oakland movement through the various incidents, emphasizing the peaceful actions of protesters.

“The destructive actions of a small minority of protestors are unacceptable. I continue to call for non-violence and support the free speech rights of the protestors, as well as the small businesses, local workers, and the 99 percent,” Lee said in a press release last week.

I made $70K last year and according to your link that puts me in the top .85%.

I would be curious to see where $70K would rank on a US rich list.

What better place to go to find out the answer than the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). Taxfoundation.org has developed a couple of easy-to-follow charts based on the data provided by the IRS - I have provided a link to Taxfoundation.org below.

According to the IRS, the "income split point" for somebody to be included in the top 1% of all taxpayers (by income) was $380,354 in 2008 (the last year where data is available).

So, if you reported Positive Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $380,354 or over, then you were in the top 1% of all taxpayers in the United States in 2008.

According to the IRS, this group of taxpayers (1,399,606 total) paid 38.02% of all federal individual income tax collected in 2008.

The top 5% of all taxpayers (income split on this group was at $159,619 in 2008) paid 58.72% of all federal individual income taxes in 2008.

Let's continue to break this down:

Top 10% (Income Split Point $113,799) Paid 69.94% of Federal Individual Income Taxes
Top 25% (Income Split Point $67,280) Paid 86.34% of Federal Individual Income Taxes
Top 50% (Income Split Point $33,048) Paid 97.30% of Federal Individual Income Taxes
Bottom 50% (Anyone Making Less Than $33,048) Paid 2.7% of Federal Individual Income Taxes

What Percentage of Federal Individual Income Taxes Do Rich People Really Pay?

Well let's see, the OWS protesters are violent, destroying property and otherwise just not conducting themselves as decent folk would. That might be true but is it true in all cases?

(CBS News) Peaceful protests by the Occupy Oakland movement were overshadowed this week by violent clashes between a small group of demonstrators and police. Now there's concern among the majority of protesters that their message is being hijacked. CBS News correspondent John Blackstone looks into this latest development.
It could be seen as a battle for the image of the Occupy movement. One demonstrator struggles to put out the flames of a burning barricade as others masked and dressed in black pull him away.
It wasn't the only time during a huge Occupy demonstration in Oakland this week that protesters found themselves on opposite sides. When dozens of black clad marchers began attacking a supermarket, others urged them to stop -- finally linking arms to protect the store from further destruction......

For years, these black-clad demonstrators, known as the Black Bloc, have been showing up at marches in Europe and the U.S. Although often small in numbers, by destroying property and challenging police, they can hijack the message of otherwise peaceful protests

Is "Black Bloc" hijacking Occupy Oakland?

If property damage was their intent all along, why did we not see violence and property destruction from the outset of the Occupy Movement? If there had been no violence or property damage like in the early days of the protest and police had moved in with such violent force, what would the American public have thought? But now that we know the movement is violent and out to destroy property, we understand, we even welcome the use of violence by "law enforcement" to get these criminals off our streets and out of our city parks.

And just who is this Black Bloc we hear about? Are they really protesters?
Could they be something else entirely?

And if you think this is something new, think again!

And don't think this kind of action doesn't exist today because it does!

Good post. It was only a matter of time before the plants showed to the party.

Just received this today....don't know if it's true or not, just thought I'd put it out there for your perusal....

Coincidence
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat a coincidence!
Hey, this is great! Imagine the odds of this happening.
Do you know the park in NYC that the Wall Street protesters are occupying?
Zucotti Park.
DId you know this park is not owned by the city?
It is owned by Brookfield Properties.
Who was just hired by Brookfield Properties as an attorney?
Vice President Joe Biden's son.
Who sits on the board of Brookfield Properties?
Mayor Bloomberg's live-in girlfriend.
Now, guess what company just received some of the last of the Obama Stimulus $$$$$$$.
Thaaaaaaaaaaaaat's right, Brookfield Properties.
Isn't life great!
Hey, on a completely unrelated note, Wisconsin is shaping up to be the swing state in the
2012 presidential elections. Not Florida. Not Ohio. But Wisconsin.

Now, guess who owns the company that will be tabulating the electronic votes in Wisconsin.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaat's right, the biggest contributor to Obama, George Soros. Whaaaaaaaat a coincidence!
Remember what Stalin said. "He who votes does not have power. He who counts the votes has power".

And who is Brookfield Properties ?

The company's roots go back to the 1900s in Montreal, Quebec. It was known then as the Canadian Arena Company. It operated the Montreal Arena. In a partnership with Toronto investors, it built the Arena Gardens in Toronto. In the 1920s, it built the Montreal Forum. From 1935, for several decades, the company owned the Montreal Canadiens National Hockey League club. In the 1970s, when the company was known as Carena Properties, it expanded its business into commercial real estate.[SUP][5][/SUP] After the Montreal Forum closed, the Forum was sold to competitor Canderel Properties.
It lost out to Silverstein Properties, Inc. on the lease of the World Trade Center in New York City, a few months before the complex was destroyed on during the September 11, 2001, attacks.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP]
In 2006, the company acquired Trizec Properties.
In 2008, it acquired GMAC Real Estate.
On Earth Day (April 22) 2010, the company was listed as one of Canada's "The Green 30" Organizations Based On Eco-Friendly Programs and Practices [2] based on an employee poll.

Anyone else fail to recall Tea Partiers throwing a Molotov cocktail?
PORTLAND — Portland police said an improvised incendiary device was set off outside the World Trade Center at 121 SW Salmon and they’re investigating a possible link to the Occupy Portland camp.

Lt. Robert King said a Molotov cocktail caused minor damage Tuesday night on an external stairwell. The building is located one block east of the two parks where Occupy Portland demonstrators have been camped since Oct. 6.

King said “there’s preliminary information available that indicates a connection” to Occupy Portland.

He said that police received unconfirmed reports on Oct. 31 that the gasoline filled bottles with a cloth wick were being made within the Occupy Portland encampments at Lownsdale and Chapman Square parks.

Occupy Atlanta: Tuberculosis Breaks Out

Meet Obama’s base: Hygiene deficient, lice infested, drug saturated, and now tuberculosis infected. They are the 99%.
(CBS Atlanta) — The Fulton County Health Department confirmed Wednesday that residents at the homeless shelter where protesters have been occupying have contracted the drug-resistant disease. WGCL reports that a health department spokeswoman said there is a possibility that both Occupy Atlanta protesters and the homeless people in the shelter may still be at risk since tuberculosis is contracted through air contact.
“Over the last three months were have been two persons who have resided in this facility who have been diagnosed with confirmed or suspected infectious tuberculosis (TB),” said Fulton County Services Director Matthew McKenna in a written statement to CBS Atlanta. “One of these persons was confirmed to have a strain of TB that is resistant to a single, standard medication used to treat this condition. All person(s) identified as positive have begun treatment and are being monitored to ensure that medication is taken as directed.”

The Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless has indicated that two cases have been made public knowledge to the group, the first coming from someone who contracted the disease in September. The identities of the people who have contracted the disease, however, have not been disclosed by the health department to this point.

The news of the tuberculosis contractions could force Occupy Atlanta to move once again. WGCL reports that more than 100 protesters made the move to the homeless shelter Oct. 30 after Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed evicted Occupy Atlanta from Woodruff Park, citing that they were no longer allowed to camp out overnight. The homeless shelter is also facing an eviction of its own from the city.

Messages left by CBS Atlanta for Occupy Atlanta and the Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless were not immediately returned.

More OWS Violence: Man Shot At Occupy Oakland — Update: Victim Reported Killed…

Number of Tea Party shootings stuck at zero.
OAKLAND — A man was shot this evening near the Occupy Oakland encampment outside City Hall, witnesses said.
The man was shot outside the 12th Street BART station on Frank Ogawa Plaza at 14th Street and Broadway about 5 p.m.
Witnesses said four to six shots were fired. Oakland firefighters performed CPR on the victim, who was taken away in an ambulance.

Nathan Stalnaker, 29, of Oakland said he had seen the men surrounding the victim on the ground. Several of them were kicking and punching the man, who was trying to shield his face from the blows, Stalnaker said.

A number of people from the camp came over and tried to break it up, but Stalnaker said one of the assailants then pulled out a gun.

Stalnaker said he didn’t see the shooting but heard several shots.

After the shooting, a number of people from the camp stood in a line and locked their arms, trying to keep onlookers away so emergency personnel could tend to the victim, Stalnaker said.
