I'm about to take the driving class for full time driving at the driving school in Maspeth. Has anyone gone to this school and can anyone tell me what to expect? I know I have to memorize 5 seeing habits and 10 point commentary but how much actual driving will we have to do? I've already passed the initial stick shift road test at my hub

Your instructor will be one of 2 people. Barry or Glen. Not too familiar with Barry much but Glen is a great guy. You want the job my recommendation is leave early. Get there early and be good. Work on your DOK you will not pass if you don't know it 95% or better. Make sure your clean shaven.

They will dq you for not shaving and being prepared after your first verbal warning. Dress business casual unless you have your browns. Then wear your browns. If you do not have ups socks. Then wear the pants. Do not wear long sleeve shirt with shorts.

Glen especially is very big on appearance. Make sure your boots are black or brown polished.

Bring a notebook and a few BLACK ink pens. Do not bring blue they will yell at you.

Good luck and be careful driving in Queens for the on road test. They drive like idiots out there. Don't be surprised if people pull on your left and speed past you even if it means they are on the wrong side of the road.

Tldr: dress business casual unless you have browns then wear browns. Be clean shaven. Bring notebook and BLACK ink pens. Polishable black or brown footwear. Study DOK 95% or better verbal and written.

Good luck!

Park your car five blocks away and not in the employee parking lot, not unless you want it catch fire like three other cars did last week.

Really? That's happened? First time I had to go to foster but for my refresher for last summer peak I was at Maspeth and had no issues. I'll be heading back again in a couple of weeks for a 2 day refresher again lol

Is there just one stick shift road test or do you drive the truck the entire week?

Generally you go out twice. It's a bus style stick shift. You will go out with the instructor and 7 other trainees and take turns driving. Should you still have issues and not pass. Again I don't know about Barry but Glen will work with you if you are making an effort. Just know how to drive stick as a bare minimum.

Good luck. Oh and be honest with the instructors. Don't lie to them and you'll be fine. Make sure you have your License and DOT card they will check for them. If you don't have them you won't go out.

Yeah, it happened but hopefully it was an isolated incident . Bunch of empty small bags behind a trailer caught fire and the fire got hot and wide enough to ignite some cars on the other side of the adjacent fence.

I said hopefully, because if they don't get rid of the homeless people that smoke I n the lot, it might happen again.

Maspeth? I would expect a lot of Asian drivers on the Midtown. Watchout!
