Fiery Redding crash kills two this morning - Chicoer
Around 1:55 a.m., an on-duty Redding police officer saw a United Parcel Service tractor with two trailers make a left turn from northbound 273 onto westbound Buenaventura.
A Honda two-door sedan was traveling at a "high rate of speed" down southbound 273 and went against the traffic signal, hitting the side of the truck, according to police.
Both the truck and car immediately burst into flames.
A Redding officer helped the UPS driver, Johan Abraham, 57, out of the truck as his lower half was still on fire. They were able to put out the flames engulfing Abraham, he said, and the driver was taken to Mercy Medical Center.
