Because when you were a kid, there was only 1 TV in the household, basically no other elctrical appliances as we have today (that's why older homes only have 1 or 2 electrical sockets in the kitchen - not enough in todays world) !There were no microwaves, blenders, electri can openers, fancy oven toasters, etc).There wasn't a TV in every room, or a computer, fax machine and printers.
