Message: <blockquote data-quote="vantexan" data-source="post: 6055513" data-attributes="member: 24302"><p>Learned something tonight.  Their currency, the CFA, is pegged to the Euro and has been since France adopted the Euro in 1999.  And they're looking to transition to their own currency, the "Eco."  France has definitely used their Franc to their advantage but France doesn't control the Euro.  A lot of critics in France have accused their government of keeping French West Africa impoverished but since WWII a number of former French colonies have started their own currency.  Some have returned to the CFA after creating their own currency.  And a couple of countries that were never French colonies decided to adopt the CFA.  So it's not as cut and dried as France is controlling everything.  They are no longer colonies.  But yes their colonial past still affects them today.</p></blockquote><p></p>
