Get outside the developed world and economies drop quite a bit. Not saying living there is necessarily better than the States. It is if you have enough independent income as opposed to what that income gets you in the States. What a lot of people don't realize is that most of these countries have a wealthy class who like nice things too. You can live in those enclaves for less than a similar lifestyle in the States or Europe. There are places also that have a fulltime spring like climate. There are upscale neighborhoods in a number of Mexican cities for example. Argentina has a great lifestyle if you are by their standards wealthy. Doesn't take much to live a nice lifestyle there. People come here because there are jobs. Jobs that pay in U.S. dollars which go a lot further back home. But in spite of what it seems like most people remain in their home countries. I'm not telling anyone who is young to go to these countries and look for work. They'd be very disappointed. But if you have a pension and/or Social Security there's at least 15-20 developing countries where you'll do better than you ever would in the States. And most of them have very good internet now. The First World developed it and they have bought into it.
