There is a part of me that feels like any attempts to prevent Iran from manufacturing a nuclear weapon are futile. Its 2013. The first functioning nuclear weapon was dropped on Hiroshima 68 years ago. We built that weapon without any modern technology whatsoever, in an era where the entire computing power that existed on the planet amounted to a fraction of what is available today on a $200 smart phone. The nuclear Genie got let out of the bottle a long time ago and there really isnt any way to get that bitch back in. If Iran truly wants to join the "nuclear club" then maybe we should just let them. You see, there are some rules for membership, and we could have a private discussion with them about those rules. Rule #1 being that we already have all of their military bases and weapons production facilities targeted with precision guided, low-yield, submarine-lanched nuclear missiles of our own. Rule #2 being that any nuclear attack by any entity (Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria etc.) against Israel will be automatically be assumed by us to have originated from Iran and will trigger an immediate and tenfold retaliatory response. And what we dont destroy, the Israelis most certainly will. We can also extend the same protection to our allies in the Arab gulf states. Its called Mutual Assured Destruction, and for almost 60 years it prevented a nuclear exchange between the USA and the USSR. It worked then, and it can work now. Only this time, its not "mutual"; Iran will never be capable of posing a significant threat to the United States whereas we have the capability of laying waste to their entire nation with the push of a few buttons. Having accepted Iran into the nuclear club and explained the "rules", we could then offer a sincere and public apology for the manner in which both we and the British have been screwing that country over since World War 2. Perhaps its time to offer the Iranians a choice; the iron fist in one hand or the olive branch in the other.
