That’s not what the First Amendment is.
Begging your pardon but the First Amendment protects us from the government interfering with our free speech. Are you defending the Biden administration's colluding with Twitter to silence critics? Twitter may have the right to, but not at the government's prompting. If you disagree with that you might benefit from an online civics course.

No it does not. It protects us from the Government restricting our free speech.

The Government did not make a law, or force Twitter to do anything.

I'm not. But the First Amendment does not stop the Government from asking.

The Government can ask. They just cannot force, or pass a law, restricting our free speech.

Maybe you need a refresher.

First Amendment

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Claiming that Twitter violated BoBo’s free speech is like saying the free speech of failed American Idol contestants is violated.

Twitter makes the rules. You agree to them when you sign up. They can decide to kick you off of their platform ANYTIME they wish to do so.

The government made no law to restrict anyone’s free speech.

Hope this helps some of you that need the clarification.

The FBI lied about the laptop, and coerced Twitter and Facebook to suppress the story when they knew it was true.

They did not pass a law nor order, as the Government, to suppress the stories. They asked, and Twitter was more than willing to do it. Hell, Twitter would have done it without the Government asking. Who's side do you think Twitter and Facebook are on?

I agree they should not be involved at all, but they did not violate the First Amendment. And Twitter and Facebook can do what they want. They are private Companies.

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.

That’s my point. They knew that they would suppress it. It’s wrong. They had no right to lie about the material.

It is 100% illegal for the government to tell a private entity to shut down opinions they don't like. If it wasn't why do you think the government went behind the scenes to pressure Twitter to cancel conservatives? The 1st Amendment is to protect us from the government, not private enterprise.

You don't seem to understand that platforms like Twitter have been given special exemptions that protect them from lawsuits that newspapers and other media outlets can be exposed to. If Twitter doesn't play ball those exemptions can be taken away by the party in complete power. That means a Democratic Congress can pass a bill that a Democratic president can sign that would fix their wagon if they aren't compliant.

The Government never threatened Twitter. They asked. Not illegal.

Now, if there is the threat by the Government of removing special exemptions if Twitter doesn't "play ball," you may have a case. If Twitter thinks these exemption may be taken away so they did what asked, well that's on Twitter. Twitter was never threatened. The Government asked and Twitter obliged. Like I said, they would have done it anyway. The Government should have stayed out of it, but it was not a First Amendment violation.

Interesting take on the situation. You may be right what the government did was completely legal. Very very wrong, immoral, decietful, but maybe not illegal.

I feel like the purpose of whatever this is (a congressional hearing?) should be to get the truth out, not to yell and make people feel bad. So while I agree with her concern and share her anger, she should have stuck to the facts and not exaggerated or compared to Putin, etc.
