[QUOTE="DELACROIX, post: 5173650, member: 49065"] I hate the classic stereotype of the modernist artists, suffering souls that eventually killed themselves before they had the opportunity to exactly be good at their craft. Vincent Van Gogh really started that trend, but Vincent was a superb painter and created a good body of work in such a short period of time. He died at 38 and created probably close to a thousand works of art, but in his lifetime he just sold one painting for roughly 30 dollars to an distant relative.. These celebrated contemporary artists that died before they were 30 never developed, the work is for the most part pathetic. I never look at any modern art today, most of them are con artist and clowns, playing the court jester to the elitist. Picasso was a gifted artist but sucked as an individual, he never grew up. His talent is evident from his childhood days and his work is worth studying. Bacon .. an English painter borrowed a lot from Picasso during his surrealist years...Bacon did probably influence a lot of the early Abstract Expressionists in America during the 50’s and 60’s.
