Here's the way I see it. If UPS is going to get rid of these 250 drivers, now is the beginning of the window to do it .Most of the US isn't going to be seeing snow for the first time in a long time. There won't be days when the package cars are called back in because of the snow leaving two days work for the next day. There won't be any container rail trailers stuck somewhere on property in chicago or nebraska due to snow, so there so be no interruptions to the flow of work (again 2 days work into one). Cover drivers become full time drivers. Saturday air drivers stay drivers for the rest of their work weeks. On road sups come from all different areas to train guys. They also can fill in as drivers when none are to be found. Drivers from the other close centers such as foster ave can fill in. I am not saying this would be easy, but if UPS is looking to replace these drivers, NOW begins the company's best window of opportunity. The company has a lot to gain by this, top paid drivers replaced by 4 year progression drivers starting at 18.75 an hour. A lesson taught to a local 804 and a lesson learned by locals all across the country.
