Recharge: Sports science helps UPSers stay cool Get ready for a totally new, revamped heat-focused training program – and the coolest gear around. What’s new: Our drivers and package handlers are just like world class athletes – they train, rest and use their talent and skills to deliver what matters for our customers every day. That’s why we are excited to introduce Recharge, a new health and safety program that’s rolling out in the U.S. In the coming weeks, package car drivers will receive new gear to help regulate body temperature. We’re also launching a new training program to help employees work safely – especially on hot days. Expert advice: This new program is backed by experts, including the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, UConn (University of Connecticut), and MISSION®, a major activewear company that specializes in cooling fabrics. We’re taking heat-safety science from the sports world and bringing it to UPS. Why Recharge: “Proper rest and hydration are some of the most important ways to stay safe on hot days,” said Cormac Gilligan, UPS Global Head – Health and Safety. “We also know that these are only part of the safety solution. The right training, the right gear and the right equipment are also key to helping UPSers stay safe.” What to expect:

Package car drivers will get new cooling sleeves and hats – developed in partnership with MISSION® – to bring athletic innovations off the playing field and court, and into our operations.
New employee training created with the help of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and the Korey Stringer Institute at UConn.
All package cars will have a fan by early summer and more fans are being installed in our facilities.
UPSers will always have access to ice and cool water in our facilities.
Our approach has always been to work with experts to provide ongoing improvements for you. Together, we’re recharging our commitment to health and safety to help everyone stay safe when it’s hot and year-round.
