[QUOTE="DELACROIX, post: 5961539, member: 49065"] Very familiar with this topic...The Teamster's leadership over the years did not give a damn about organizing any new inside (Clerical) positions, simply not worth the effort. During the years 1973 through 1997 the Company had free rein with only hiring entry level part timers over creating any new full time permanent jobs. In the Central and Southern every part time hour is covered under the Company Pension Plan and it still pays peanuts for those service years, the 1997 strike was all about UPS's attempt to take over all of the Union run pension plans. Many fine examples of how they would abuse their employees if they had total control (the recent elimination of their own partners is a good one). Meanwhile the Teamsters where under investigations for corruption and mob influences (Hoffa and kin), deregulation in the 80's eliminated any additional funding in the Central States Pension Fund, Carey actually tried to negotiate the part timers into the Teamsters' monetary contribution trusts back in 1993, the Company would never allow that. Hoffa came in after Carey was ousted and he was a tool for the Company, they knew he would never call a strike on his watch, his true character came out when the Company bailed out of the Central in 2007 and showed up again with the his last two (let them eat cake) Contracts. Meanwhile back on the farm, the Company increased their non union inside positions taking work from our members claiming that every OMS and Administrative Specialist (Clerical) where management. I do not the know inside workings during the Hoffa years, but it appears they let that slide and concentrated on their base (full time driving) and never considered organizing those Clerical or Inside employees. In my area that work was ALL Union, before my time but the Clerical workforce in my building organized back in the early 70's, and all they had to do is sign a Union Card...The current Non Union (Clerical) employee are too scared to organize, they have seen what happens if you become to (uppity), they do not trust the Union Leadership to protect them. The current push now from some of them to join the Union was the elimination of their pension accruement...they never got MIP, most of them are part time and have no real power or authority to do anything. Some areas are better at trying to get these employees organized, but their apparent no language to do it nationally. With O'Brien in it appears that the Company is now eliminating those non union inside positions before the 2028 Contract as a added incentive to prevent any further attempt to organize those folks...They are scared and I don't blame them...
