From a technical standpoint the picture is wrong in the sense that at the time of the Declaration, there was no Uncle Sam so to speak. The Declaration was a list of grievances of british subjects acting as rep's for certain independent british colonies and their populations who were in effect threatening secession from british rule. To accept their actions being in accordance with the majority of people in the colonies at the time IMO would be a far stretch. My opin is that this early movement was about as popular in general consensus as some variation of a 3rd party political effort is today in pure percentage of population numbers. People 8itched about their lives but few were the image of the grand American patriot that American mythology likes to portray. What really got Uncle Sam started if you will was the Articles of Confederation and from that came the Constitution and there you go. But the actual idea of Uncle Sam first came about in the War of 1812' and the later in the name of the "public good" eg benefits the State storyline, the iconic character was molded into the beard old man dressed in red, white and blue we see today. Not unlike the image and idea of Santa Klaus was used to spread an idea and the consumption of consumer goods. The image has never been about freedom and liberty but about pure propaganda and then later thanks to Bernays and Lippmann now known a Public Relations or "spin" if you will. As to the 10 Commandments, which one because there were in fact 2 recordings of them (Exodus 20 and Exodus 34) in your bible.
