I don't like changing a name simply for political purposes. No need to change it. Mt Mckinley should be Mckinley again; didn't need to be changed to begin with. They just changed the name of Clingman's Dome to Kuwohi down my way, but I will always call it Clingman's Dome. Ft. Bragg will always be Bragg to me.... etc

I'm sure people can find a gotcha with names somehow, but just generally speaking

I don't care much but do think its pretty pointless to rename the Gulf. It would have been better to change military bases back to their old names. Maybe Trump is doing it so his opposition will focus on a trivial issue and less on the more important things he is doing.

That's different. It was changed from McKinley back to what the locals had always called it. On something like that if they want to have a state vote on it that would be fine.

You think that clueless kids who can't point out the Gulf of Mexico will be able to point the Gulf of America on a map? A lot of them don't even know what a gulf is.

If they must change it, I think Gulf of Americas, plural, is the best option. Afterall, all three Americas share the Gulf.

I still remember the time when I was ordered to North Dakota right out of tech school, there were 4 others and we all had to look at a map to figure it out. This was back in 1972 .. couldn’t imagine how bad it is now.
