Your last sentence says it all. Are you not part of the world? One that regrets that the oil industry exists? We as a nation has been trying to wean itself off of oil from all sources ever since the first Arab oil embargo of 1973. Rest assured if Europe had redoubled it's efforts to get off of Russian gas and oil the West response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine would have been much more forceful perhaps enough that he wouldn't have done it. But Europe did not do so and Putin has taken advantage of it and in doing so what he's doing is pure political blackmail. Furthermore it's more often than not over production the reason oil companies go bankrupt and reducing it's vulnerability to those cycles is what it's doing to keep from going bankrupt . And forward thinking oil companies like Chevron and Devon are diversifying into what? Cleaner burning fuels. And that effort is what is creating the improved balance sheets they now enjoy.
