I work for a living.  I have never taken government handouts like food stamps, unemployment, subsidies for housing, etc.   I have had periods in my life where my entire net worth was the small amount of cash in my wallet.  But I worked my way back.  Do you own any stock?  Does that stock pay you dividends?  Are those “handouts”?In our state we own the oil, so we get some cash for it.  Most of it goes into the fund to create more wealth to both fund our state government and create future dividends.</blockquote>
