Hey everyone, curious what everyone does during the summer for lunch. Up til recently i brought lunch and just ate in the truck but with the temperature going up i've been wanting to find a cool place to hang out for lunch, but then i end up buying lunch so i have a place to stay and that could get expensive in the long run. Curious what you all do, suck it up and stay outside or just find a place to sit.

My last job i worked in the frozen department in a grocery store, best freakin thing ever in the summer. I get bounced from route to route, not all places have a walk in cooler lol.

I have no where on my route to cool down. The 2 places, are kinda dungy and just have a fan blowing. I can barley even eat on break im so hot.

I just find somewhere with air conditioning and sit down and eat. Then I either read a book and/or surf the web on my phone. I don't see how people work all day in the heat without a break. But we have many that do that.

My house is on my route. I cut my grass 4 days a week on my lunch break. When lunch is over and I go back to work, it always seems to have cooled down!

You have a couple of options.
1) Park your truck at a business that will let you hang out in the AC then come back out to your truck and sweat your butt off when you go back into the oven that is the back of your truck (but you're cool for lunch hour).
2) Do what I do: Find a nice shady secure spot where you can park under some trees in the shade and open your bulkhead & rear door. If possible aim the back of the truck in the direction the wind (if any) is blowing from. If you have to park perpendicular to the breeze open the cab door toward the wind & close the other cab door thus creating a wind tunnel forcing the cooler air into the cargo area. Now eat your lunch while your cargo area cools off, then take a 45 minute nap on your 2000 shelf or set up a hammock inside or outside the truck.

I had several places who didn't care if I plopped my butt down in their back room and took advantage of their air conditioning. A couple had ice machines that I could help myself to. At the Power Company on my route I could pull my whole truck into their air conditioned garage and take a break because all their trucks were out working. Their break room was well stocked with vending machines and typical guy magazines (hunting -fishing - car magazines-------no porn though).

Did you check in the bathroom by chance?

None there either but I could take a break at a small grocery store and "read" any magazine I wanted off the rack. If I wanted a particular one to take home all I had to do was ask for it and the check out gals would rip the cover off it so the store would get credit for it and it was mine-no charge. They always insisted I take the latest issue of Playboy or Penthouse if I told them my wife was going to be gone for awhile-------I had a lot of fun at that store for years.
