When the ideas behind the symbols start moving further and further away from the real things the symbols are meant to communicate, they lose their meaning. To an extent I agree that traditional gender-roles in a society can be too rigid and make it difficult for people, whose circumstances fall outside the norms, just to get by. This is where putting tradition ahead of people gets conservatives in trouble. We need to be compassionate towards the struggles of others, without losing all grip on reality.</blockquote>
