What's divisive is instead of one united America, and one national anthem celebrating it, we have a substantial portion of the population saying we are a separate America and this other song is more reflective of us and our struggle against the other America. I think it can be explained by looking at Whitney Houston. A beautiful young black woman with incredible talent. Rose to the top of her field in a land that rewards ability. Gave possibly the greatest rendition ever at the Super Bowl of the Star Spangled Banner. Had it all and proceeded to destroy it with drugs, cutting her life short. Some black Americans are using their given talents to succeed. Not just in sports or entertainment but in many fields. But way too many are caught up either in using and selling drugs, or are stuck living in those neighborhoods where drug usage and the violence that goes with it impacts their daily lives. And are blaming the larger white culture for most of their problems. Some deservedly so, but from an outsider looking in it seems many don't want to take responsibility for their own problems. So after decades of trying to integrate they are self segregating. Rather than building a future they are demanding a future given to them with reparations. People used to say that you've made your bed, now you have to lie in it. And it affects everything it seems anymore.
