'Trust is there' between UPS and its mentee company - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Landing a big corporate client is a dream for many entrepreneurs. For small minority business enterprises (MBEs), the corporate client also can bring challenges. Successful business relationships must be built on trust and a willingness by the corporation to nurture those small companies so they can rise to the challenges, according to one corporate client, UPS.

“It’s critical that we work with high-performing, high-quality suppliers,” said Kris Oswold, vice president for global supplier diversity at United Parcel Service Inc. “These suppliers are partners with us to meet our customer’s needs.”

UPS spends more than $2.8 billion with small businesses, including $1 billion with diverse and minority-owned firms, according to Oswold. The company participates in the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council (GMSDC) program mentoring MBEs, including Stellar Consulting Solutions, a technology staffing and services firm.
