White settlers were allowed into Tejas to be a buffer for northern Mexicans against Comanche and Kiowa attacks. They then fought for and achieved independence from the Mexicans in 1836 who had only 15 years earlier achieved their independence from Spain in 1821. The Texans eventually applied for and received statehood in 1845. The Mexicans didn't like it, started pushing for an international border north of the Rio Grande. This sparked the Mexican War where the U.S. standing army, less than 6000 strong, took on the 700,000 strong Mexican army, poorly equipped and trained but still 700,000, and whipped them. There was very little Mexican presence in the territory ceded to the U.S. Most of today's Hispanic population had entered the U.S. since 1950 or were born here since then. Now, if you want to be snarky about your own country I would suggest you learn a few things about its history before engaging in snark.
