They already have an app their using with Amazon flex. Google the opinions of the folks using it, not so great. After wear and tear on personal vehicle and all the other sub contractor small business taxes your basically making minimum wage. Good luck with that.

I'm not seeing it but then again if I knew the answers I wouldn't be an hourly employee at UPS

You're not seeing it YET.

The app was just part of whats discussed in the article.

This app would compete with Coyote...How does it have anything to do with us?

Do some research and see what Amazon is paying the truckers pulling their Prime trailers...They are putting a ton of restrictions on those companies and paying them a pittance. This is probably a way for them to find truckers to haul their loads and cut out the broker's fee.

And don't you think it's silly to say they are developing an Uber like app when Uber is also developing the same kind of trucking app?

Next thing they will try to get into the cell phone market...Oh yeah, they've already tried that and failed.

Either the government needs to remove all transportation regulations or make these " start ups" play by the same rules. Who the hell wants day workers as part of America's future. Businesses already get away with hiring illegal Mexicans hanging out near there nearest big box lumber yard. We need an app that can replace any CEO with any qualified manager worldwide. Let's bid their compensation down. How about hired mercenaries instead of a standing army. This sh-- has to stop.

This is a load finding app. You would need to have a DOT number and everything else required for your own trucking authority to get any of these loads.

They are trying to get truckers to haul a load for the lowest rate possible so they can keep the rest of the fee, so basically they are becoming a trucking broker. My guess would be so they can either cut out or supplement the contractors they have hauling from their own warehouse to warehouse.

UPS basically did the same thing when they acquired Coyote Logistics. During peak UPS got to hire contractors for cost because they own the company who posted their loads. Before Coyote, I'm guessing UPS had to post these loads with brokers and pay a higher rate.

If you believe trucking forums brokers are severely gouging drivers right now. They are colluding to keep some freight lanes so cheap truckers are basically paying for their fuel and no profit to get to other locations with better rates. I think Florida is one of those areas...High pay going in but work for free to get back out of there. If that's true it's easy to see why they want to cut out brokers.

If FedEx hasn't eclipsed UPS in 20 years, why would Amazon succeed in 7?
Because Amazon is jumping into the shipping side of things rather quickly and at their current growth will pass FedEx and UPS. They've learned a few things from UPS (much of which we helped them with) and FedEx. Thats right.....we've shown them exactly how to squeeze us out. The app in the article isn't what should concern us.

We'll see what they've learned from FedEx and a contractor model. The way they are going about it, we'll I doubt it will be smooth sailing all the way through.

What current growth do they have in shipping? They leased a few thousand trailers and some planes. Right now they are taking the low hanging fruit and saving themselves a little money.

At some point FedEx and UPS will give them an ultimatum. Keep taking the easy deliveries from us and prices for your other deliveries and peak season overflow will go sky high.

I still think Fedex was smart for walking away from Amazon for the most part. Let them deliver their own crap and let them struggle to get it going. We would benefit by other big online sellers closing the gap during that time with special contracts with us and Fedex. Not sure why UPS feels the need to pave the road and give them directions.

I would hope so, but I'm not hopeful.
