Are you glad Obama's finally getting out of the White House in 19 days

He has one last trick to play .
In the 5 minute window where Congress shuts down the current session and begins the next new session , he could declare Congress out of session and install his Supreme Court pick.
Now that would be a legacy .
Having the Congress and the new administration battle over his move instead of conducting new business. Talk about a roadblock .

Republicans not allowing a supreme court justice to be appointed certainly set a tone for the next four years. Bipartisanship is dead for the foreseeable future.

Not unprecedented -
The Thurmond rule, in US politics, posits that at some point in a presidential election year, the US Senate will not confirm the president's nominees to the federal judiciary except under certain circumstances. The practice is not an actual "rule" and has not been followed in the past, with presidents continuing to appoint and the Senate continuing to confirm judicial nominees during election years.

Although described by experts as a myth, the "rule" has been inconsistently invoked by senators from both political parties, usually when politically advantageous to do so.

The US Supreme Court has ruled that Obama move unconstitutional.
No worries there.

The current political climate is curious to say the least.
Republicans have no desire for bipartisanship.
Democrats are hoping the president is a liar.

Most people want change but they have no clue what kind......
A lot of angry people on both sides are going to be disappointed when they find out nothing at all is going to change.

I do see one change coming NASA will be a space exploration agency again and not a muslim outreach center .
You think? Best I can tell Trump is going to cut their funding drastically. Haven't heard anything about firing all the muslim employees, but anything's possible with the Tbag :euro: in charge.

I think we need to wait until the next election before we appoint another SCJ. After all, it was OK with Mitch McConnell.

To be fair, it has been common practice on both sides of the aisle to allow the incoming administration to fill any SCJ vacancies, especially if the opening occurs during the last year of the current term.

somewhat.....there are things that'll need 60 yesses
Moreluck, you have forgotten about The Nuclear Option that the Democrats have been using.
Confirmation votes by a simple majority of senators, rather than the 60-vote supermajority
Now, a president whose party holds the majority in the Senate is virtually assured of having his nominees approved, with far less opportunity for political obstruction.

Congress may pass bills by simple majority votes. If the president vetoes a bill, Congress may override the veto by a two-thirds supermajority of both houses.
