For the last 30 years, parents in my area have been telling their kids that concerning housing , they will be left on their own.
The kids can not expect the family home to be passed on to them.
One young guy I know has been told by his mother than in the future , she sees her home being torn down to increase the neighbors parking area.

My dad has a home that's probably worth at least $400k. Might be more, not sure with the recent run up in values. With my brother, sister, step sister and step brother there are 5 of us but my sister gets the house. The rest of us will divide the remaining cash which might be all gone by the time he passes. Has about $100k now. So not counting on anything. But he lets me live here for free so I'm hoping to have $80k or more saved in the next few years. Will try to put that to work for me.

I like the comedian who said even if the Gen X'ers take over the USA --because they can't read cursive, read a paper map, drive a manual transmission, and many other things it won't be hard to take it back.
