Pence was there. The Secret Service had to evacuate him from the Senate chamber. Pence is the VP, first in the line of succession, and as such he has a military officer with him at all times who has the “football“ (a briefcase with the nuclear launch codes) in case the President dies or is incapacitated. The Secret Service is not going to allow a crowd of rioters to get anywhere near Pence. Their rules of engagement are different from those of the Capitol police. To quote a common right-wing phrase...”**** around and find out.” Well, she ****ed around and found out and now she is dead. Good riddance.

I was watching it on TV. Pence was there, in his capacity as Senate President, to announce the Electoral votes. You had him, Pelosi, and President Pro Tempore of the Senate Chuck Grassley all together in the same building. That is numbers 1-3 in the line of Presidential succession in a building that was literally under seige by a group of violent insurrectionists. That constitutes a direct threat to national security. Anyone attempting to force their way into a room occupied by those three people...especially when they have a mob behind them...is going to get blown away by the Secret Service. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It is widely reported where the shooting took place. The chain of succession was in that room. The shooting was justified.
