Building closures...

I'm willing to bet we see alot of questions in regards to building closures over the next few months...

I'll start - Buildings routes are being dispersed to three different centers. Bid route is being sent to center that driver doesn't want to follow their work to. 26 year driver in this specific example.
What are their options? The vagueness in the contract reads like the CO could tell him to pound sand if he elects to not follow work.

Central region.

They don’t have to follow their work, but they would become an unassigned cover driver in the building. They chose to go to here. I believe most will follow their work. Unless of course they’re close to retirement, which might push them over the edge.

Our center manager is going to ask who wants to follow work, then ask by seniority where they want to go. Seemed fair to me.

Depends how the company and local decide they are going to handle it at the change of operations meeting, no?

The 26 year in-driver has to decide what is more important. Not following the work means you will be doing split routes like a newbie. If one is more concerned about family and/or being closer to home, they may opt to give up their routes.

Most locals have specific rules dealing with these issues.

From what I've heard from the centers steward the union has been less than informative.

Well, if it’s anything like it is currently here we know very little. Still don’t know much info, which is ridiculous but also typical of UPS and last minute plants.
Why wife is a steward and is always swarmed by people wanting to know about layoffs and dates, etc. She always tells them she will share any information she learns as soon as she knows, but UPS doesn't disclose any information until they absolutely have to.

Meetings can only get called when there’s actually information to tell. UPS is not really being super fast about giving this information.
I was talking about info such as "can I go with my route"? The OP offered up a contract question about building closures/relocation.

Understandable But at least here at this point, we don’t even know which routes are going where. we only know there’s a building closing close by within 50 miles and it could be split between three different buildings and two different locals. Contractually they are allowed to follow their work.

The issue is probably what will happen to the low seniority people. They may get forced to go to a building they don't want to work from. But it may be their only option if they want to keep working.
