Part Time Jobs vs Full Time Jobs Contractual Language

Sorry, but I don’t care anymore.
Yes, I already said I would. I’m answering a further question someone had for me. It would be rude not to respond when someone offered me help unlike yourself.
You got the answer, it not gonna change.

You’ve left important details out.

What is your preferred job?

What are the job titles of the FT employees?

And why is it that you care what other employees are doing in that center?

Is your work being directly affected?
I didn’t leave out any important details. I explained it perfectly above in my question, and knowing these positions makes zero difference to the question.

1. My preferred job is ODC. All the previous FT were booted from the job.

2. I do not know the actual job bids for the FTs, but they are not preferred jobs from my understanding with this contract. They work as tenders, irreg train, and revenue recovery for some of the mentioned positions above.

3. It determines whether I want to go FT or not. That is why it is being asked. For I could grieve losing my position when others that went FT kept theirs. And then they would have to enforce the contract for everyone. I saw one person do this for MRA pay when they went FT. All the other FTs that kept it, lost it after the one employee filed a grievance for losing his. He had a right to file, but they hated him for it.

I will wait for the business manager to respond.

I’m part time. Almost two years in the building. The new EZRPA. Going FT won’t take too long here. I just want to know because I may or may not go FT. I do like my preferred job, but understand we have a contract in place.
Full time jobs in the building are a nice gig if you can get one. The retirement benefits are what you need to consider.

Yes you did leave out important details.

1. What regional supplement do you work under.

2. Does your area have a local rider?

3. If by Business Manager you mean management, screw that. If you mean Business Agent (Union), that should be a great start.

You won't get good answers here, so as several people have suggested, contact your local or regional representatives.

I have a question for everyone on this board. Can someone please explain the difference between, "Preferred Jobs," and "Bid Jobs." From my understanding, "Preferred Jobs" go to PT Employees, and "Bid Jobs" go to the FT employees. For a PT employee, they can sign a list for any of these preferred jobs when an opening becomes available, and whoever has the highest seniority gets it. Same thing for FT employees on bid jobs, but there are circumstances where drivers get to rebid every six months whereas PT hub workers do not. PT workers fill vacancies and remain in their preferred job so long as they do not switch to another. The reason I ask this question is because I am a PT worker in a preferred job. I assume if I go FT, I should be booted out of my position for my job falls under Section 3 of Article 50 in our Supplementary Contract. I am part of UPS Central PA. Am I correct in the language that these jobs listed below are for PT workers only, and that any PT worker may file grievance to have a FT employee removed from said job? My current position had all FT employees kicked out when they opened my building and transferred people over. I am not trying to upset FT workers, but we are supposed to go by the contract, correct? There are many other jobs that have FT workers in them listed below.

Article 50 - Section 3

Part time employees will work off the part time employee seniority lists at each Center. Only part time employees hired after August 1, 1987 for the hub only, may be required to work a six (6) day operation. Employees may be worked any five (5) days. A standard work week may be established in relative seniority order with a posted day off schedule.

The Employer will fill all vacancies and permanent new jobs for part time employees from the part time selection list in all months except November and December.

Part time employees with six (6) months or more seniority shall have the right to place their name on the list of employees waiting to be moved to a preferred job within their building. Such preferred jobs shall include, but not be limited to: preloader, sorter, clerical, irregular train, designated responder, carwasher, loader unloader, smalls sorter, smalls bagger, HVD, LVD, box line sorter, primary sorter, trailer sweeper, revenue auditor, SPA, SLAW. Sure Post, ODC/FDC, Data Acquisition and Haz Mat Acceptance Auditor . Employees do not have the right to select any specific unit, load or workstation unless a prior past practice has been established.

A maximum of twenty-five percent (25%) of the employees on a shift shall be allowed to change shifts in any one (1) calendar year. A shift includes different days of the week. The employee obtaining the new position shall remain on that shift for at least six (6) months
What does your job bid say?

Holy moly. I ain't reading all that. There are biddable part time jobs. With preferred jobs I think you get on a list for it with HR. A steward can help you out and let you know how to do this.

Sounds like some kind of change of ops but I have no idea. Maybe the 22.3 jobs were moved because of it.
The company still trying to move these jobs around??? They were doing this from day one even when sorts weren't shutting down...these jobs are all numbered and closely followed by the union. Think brown though they could do the three card Monty trick on the Hof....make some of these jobs disappear.

They have to move them because the central states pension fund sucks and as always we have to bail them out. ;)

I'll say this.

The jobs were won in the 97 contract. It took years and arbitration, to force the company to implement them.

UPS is still pissed. They have tried every way they can, to impede the Unions ability to accurately track and

monitor them. The Hoffa administration's efforts lacked. I'm confident Sean has competent people and better

resources to ensure better contractual compliance. Time will tell.

It warms my heart, all the love we feel from our West Coast brothers.

Even though it's happened only once.... you seem to acknowledge and accept that you might be called

upon to make that sacrifice again. Only true Union brothers would selflessly do that.

I accidentally used the old contract. New contract adds tender to the list. Should read.

Oh I'm always here to support and comfort the central region and southern region for their bad decisions.

I think of myself as Goerge Milton and Central region and southern region as Lennie Small.
