The move was not based on his failure to challenge that one play.
10 years is a long time for a manager to be with one team.
He is from the Miami area and the rumor is that he would like to go closer to home. Jeter owns the Marlins---perhaps we could see a move in that regard.
I personally liked Girardi as both a player and manager and do hope that he is able to find a job for 2018.
