How the heck do fools do this? The instructions tell you to use water first to mark the oil level.

I almost did something similar last year. I marked the water level with the turkey in pot. Went to put the turkey in and I was like wait this is not right.


Plus even with the right amount if it's really wet or frozen or you just drop it in this can still happen.

Even if you buy a supposedly "fresh" turkey it has usually been frozen and just half thawed out. Can still be frozen in the middle.

I also ease the bird into the oil. I never had a problem.

I wonder if folks are frying too large of a bird?
