I saw some last year in stand of old trees. It looked almost magical there were so many lightning bugs. I had never seen so many in one place before.

Yeah. There are a couple of populations near here that hatch a few years apart. Crazy when it happens.

Have you guys ever had a massive hatching of cicadas?

We had that a few years ago. It was so loud it was comical. What was peculiar is different areas were heavy with activity, others noticeably less so.

I love a good cicada hatch. Got in on one in Iowa one year where your had to scream to be heard over them. Funny as hell. I think all the cicada bodies attached to the trees after they shed them is so neat.
