Those newer antenna's have more uhf elements for a crisper picture.

Yeah, you could use an old rabbit ears but the new antennas are a bit better. Don't cost much either. And you can also get a digital converter box (even if your TV already has a tuner) which all come with USB DVR's cheaply too.
