You are an idiot. My autistic child just graduated 8th grade. We are so proud of him and see all of the struggles our family has been through to get him to this point. He is excited to get into High school. His teachers from grade one were there to celebrate his progress. Many hugs and support.
All types of levels within the spectrum, no? This particular kid doesn't even know what day it is?

I'm no way was I condoning this idiot teacher. What they were thinking I have zero idea. I do know the school was communicating with the parents about his behavior multiple times although the article focused on the stupid award.

I hope your son can grow up and have a productive life. Sounds to me like he is progressing due to his parents involvement overseeing his education. Awards are fine but really do nothing. Your involvement is all the difference in his outcome.

To have everyone graduate or get an award whether or not they earned it cheapens it for everyone else. Especially the other kids with disabilities who had to work extra hard but still learned the lessons.

Otherwise what's the point of the kids even bothering to try?

Within this story there was some interpersonal politics too. The one teacher was putting ideas into the parents head to blow this whole thing up. The parents were going to let this stupid thing go. Educator types tend to be very emotional as a group. Who leaked this to the press?

I get the feeling that annoying kid shouldn't have been in a regular class but they try to mainstream almost everyone whether or not its a good idea.

Didn't sound like a mainstreaming problem. What I'm guessing is the school wanted to downgrade him into a more severe level of impairment. Again, only a guess. I would bet this would mean shipping the kid farther away.
