Its especially true when its a childs grave. Every toy in the book. I used to let those go for a year before I clamped down. They would usually end up looking like an over grown garden with weeds by the end of summer

Mantle was a switch hitter which is harder but Trout is doing it against guys throwing 95+ almost every bat. Where mantle faced 90+ maybe 3 times a week

Plus players of old didn't have the money to train year round, personal coaches, nutritionists, etc. Those guys got jobs in the off season.

They got a lot of cheap hits off tired pitchers because many managers left starters in because they were being paid to pitch a whole game.
