No I took it down to 2 inches but when I raked it it came up. The grass was wet and didn't cut like I wanted.

My mower was choking on grass hard. I probably should have but can't justify renting anything for a little over 1000sqft.

You go low so the new seed can compete. Grass is a bully. The old gang doesn't like newbies moving in.
