This was written for a Coca-Cola commercial to be sung by The New Seekers. Considered one of the most effective ads of all time, it featured a group of children from various countries singing the song together on a hilltop.
When the commercial became a hit, radio stations got requests for the song, but the only place it could be heard was in the ad. Coke put together a group called The Hillside Singers to record a full version adapted from the commercial. The song had a country sound and hit US #13. Then they had the New Seekers record a version which was also released. Both versions were on the charts at the same time.

What a flash back. I had a few of those. My 1st 45 was Bobby Goldsboro Honey if memory serves me correctly.
Played it on my parents 78.
Sounded really funny when I played it at 78 instead of 45.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, U2 and Green Day recorded a new version of this song in 2006 to raise money for victims of the hurricane. The images of weather-related disaster made the song an appropriate choice, and The Saints are the name of the New Orleans professional football team. It was a big deal when The Saints played again in their home stadium, The Superdome, after it was used to shelter victims of the hurricane and nearly destroyed. On September 25, 2006, U2 and Green Day performed the song when The Saints played there for their season opener on Monday Night Football, which was a nationally televised event and symbolic of the resurgence of the city. David Foster produced Celine Dion, Toni Braxton, Madonna, Air Supply and Michael Jackson to name a few.
Foster has won 16 Grammy Awards. He was the keyboardist for Skylark and this song is from 1973, a top 10 hit.
Dug this up after I heard it on the radio the other day.
