I have some thinsulate boots with smart wool socks, Cheap Duo fold long Johns...the thicker ones, synthetic base layer under a 100% merino wool long sleeve shirt...the merino wool is key. Then a neck warmer that will cover my mouth if needed, a smart wool Balaclava from REI for windy cold days below about 20 deg, not the cheap $19 balaclava. Loose fitting gloves and the ups hat and ups thinsulate jacket.
One thing to remember....stay away from heavy high calorie meals. This pulls a large amount of blood to your stomach to process the food and kills circulation at your extremeties.
Some people have great circulation, some dont...also, Norte Face has fantastic boots that are crazy warm.
