Dealing with Scammers

Retired 2020. Not my Problem Anymore!
When I was a rookie driver in the 80s I was covering a route at a mall. A well dressed man met me in the parking lot as I was getting packages and said he was the manager of the store and there was a pair of shoes that was coming in today and the customer was inside waiting for them. I looked and sure enough there was the pair of shoes he was waiting for. Come to find out it wasn’t the manager. Lucky for me it was only a $100 pair of shoes. When the supervisor asked me about it I explained the circumstances and he said to never give a package to anyone that approaches me unless they can prove who they are. That was the last I heard about it. Learned my lesson early on.

The scammers have ramped it up here as well. Apple & TikTok shop products.

Had one poor lady that's gotten a couple dozen packages addressed to her home but under a couple random names.

People like to scope out houses that are for sale and not occupied
If they use those for fake addresses.
You definitely got to keep your eyes open.

I actually had a computer going to an abandon house. When I didn't deliver it they called in a complaint, when OMS called them back they never answered.
I had somebody was getting Louis Vuitton purses multiple packages them everyday

They actually drove down to the center to complain about me not delivering them.

But I know my customers very well in that particular customer would leave every fall to go down south for the winter .

Deranged lunatic
We are big on overseas freight forwarding operations here, with actual fraudsters unfortunately drawn into the mix and the stories I've heard so far here are small fry in comparison.

EAM packages in the hood are often loaded with cash. Abandoned house? Sheet as vacant you say?? Be prepared to get asked later, where’s my package by some serious gangsters.

I worked a counter many a year..scammers would request an intercept prior to the 1st delivery attempt and then present a fake Driver’s License for pick up. It was pretty easy to recognize Saturday EAM’s shipped from the West Coast UPS stores as drug shipments or cash payments, had a blast busting them.

There was a situation at my center where a scammer sent a package to an address where the driver knew who lived there. He didn't release the package and the scammer proceeded to call the office asking if he could pick up it up. Obviously he never got it. Probably in jail right now.
