Driver thankful that deputy rammed his UPS truck - Local 12
A sheriff's deputy is being called a hero for ramming his car into an out-of-control UPS truck as the driver suffered a stroke behind the wheel.
"I can't thank enough for being in the right place at the right time," Deputy Colin Bertrand said. "It could have been disastrous."
Bertrand remembers Whatcom County's roads were quiet on his patrol June 30, so he went poaching around Bellingham's waterfront for activity. That's when he spotted a runaway UPS truck swerving and weaving over center lines into oncoming traffic, hitting curbs, ignoring his sirens and lights.
