Gas Prices

The Saudi's can afford to for awhile. Russia and Iran (and by extension, Venezuela) are not their BFF's, but neither are we. Unlike the esteemed @wkmac, I'm not pulling for Putin and his allies.

Oil is a fungible. It's worth what it's worth. If the guy with the most drops his prices and ups production, well that not only hurts Putin and crew, but the high dollar, dirty oil producers. I don't pretend to be in the know about the inner workings of the House of Saud, who clearly hold the cards and are willing to take a loss for awhile, but I do know it won't last.

In spite of what some may believe, the easing of combat in the oil producing regions has helped the oil make it to the refineries. All in all it seems more like a price war, than a conspiracy, with the large producer(s) hoping to put the smaller ones out of business. It's the Walmart model.

If Russian interests fail, and the Koch brothers fail, and I can call $5 'gas money', I really don't care. Unlike @wkmac, I don't think I can change the world, and don't want to live off the grid. I'm good where I am. YMMV.

I don't pretend to know the answers, I just try to roll with the punches. Lord knows I've had enough thrown my way. Still standing.
The oil producing world has changed. Saudi Arabia is now in position to ally itself with countries like the US, Canada. OPEC, I believe, is going to break as an economic cartel. Iran and Russia have some serious rethinking to do about what they want their roles to be in the world. They could do a 180 degree turn tomorrow and Saudi Arabia would still be smart to side with the US and it's economic interests.

That's as close as you get with countries that own the industry, including I believe the three you are "pulling for".

True but nothing wrong with letting evil verses evil crush one another either IMO. We are enjoying low prices because one evil happens to threaten another. In a free market idea, one competitor is forcing the price to drop which otherwise would not. If they eat each other in the process, so much the better.

The IRONY in this concept is that "WE" are the EVIL party to this mess, and not the saudis, or the russians, or libyans, or iranians.

The Russians for example have only ridden the back of the american greed machine and with oil prices as high as the GOP could get them, they managed to rebuild their war machine with outrageous profits. Had OIL not blown up under BUSH II, the Russians would have never been able to fund invasions of other countries.

The Saudis can live with oil at 60 bucks all day everyday and make huge profits. They dont need 100 dollar a barrel oil.

That is the goal of the american oil companies.

With the prices dropping so low, those that benefited from the high price of oil are now going to suffer because their infrastructures were re built upon the premise of high prices.

In a manipulated market, there are winners and losers. So far, only the american consumer has been the biggest loser since 2001. And you know what president was in office at that point.

TOS.

I think there is enough "evil" to go around without pronouncing one side more evil than the other. I'll not shed a tear for any of the aforementioned players.

bottomups

Bad Moon Risen'
100 soldiers were put into 21 day isolation today.....oh, no wait a minute, I was just imagining I read that in the news.
I'm just happy we had the foresight to close our borders and to restrict travel from the ebola outbreak areas!

Oh, wait a minute.
Nevermind.
