so if you support presidents making economic speeches then they can promote unions since economists generally agree its good for workers

you havent thought this through. why is that?
That's ridiculous logic. As I already pointed out some presidents are pro union, some aren't. And when did speaking about the economy require that anyone talk about unions? If a union wants to grow it has to prove to prospective members that it's in their best interest to join. If they can't meet that basic threshold then they won't grow. And you have certainly not thought this through and don't seem to have a clue as to how things work.

He said, directed when he knows very well they cannot be directed by the president to do so. He’s allowed to have an opinion, but that’s all it is.
Maybe was thinking that I’d have to defend Trump for saying something stupid. Dumb is dumb no matter who says it. Businesses aren’t going to just eat the costs

President Trump has recently directed Walmart and other retailers to "eat" the costs of tariffs on imported goods, rather than pass those costs on to consumers through higher prices.
if anyone has the buying power to force china to eat those costs it should be walmart

So it looks like trouble ahead if even Walmart can't force China to eat enough costs to offset the tariffs, eh?

You're inferring a lot there. It's not up to presidents to increase union membership. Never has been.

OK, here's a prime example of differences between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats think government is the boss and can dictate how companies run their business. Republicans might huff and puff but unless a business is breaking the law they keep hands off.

Ricky, your idea of what constitutes making sense has never made sense. You support things that aren't feasible yet you continue to push that they are if we just choose to make them so. Wasted motion imo.

for some commodities . everyone has agreed that we need to wean ourselves of chinese manufacturing. This will force the amazons and walmarts to at least explore other options in other countries. Certainly other countries like a vietnam or india or others can provide the cheap labor we're addicted to. I believe the market will adjust to whatever changes end up taking place. Biggest issue as always with these issues is the uncertainty. do you want to take a chance on paying super high tariffs if this could get settled next month and cost you a lot less.

dems only force dem issues. they will blow hot air about prices and even pretend to investigate them but thats it.

what trump is doing here is not republican by any means. republicans were part of the uniparty and the only energy they ever expend is in their grandstanding and hand wringing.
