Contract doesn't specify that.
DOT rules here. Not sure what contract says but we have to abide by state and DOT regulations. Simple and plain, at least 30 minutes lunch every 6 hours of work.

Here (MA), it's the law (both state and DOT) to take at least 30 minutes by the time you've reached 6 hours. Can't go over 6 hours without recording at least 30 minutes on board. If caught not recording lunch, UPS gets a significant fine.

And all the numbers for the routes are not based on any physical time study either, hence my point. A bunch of made up numbers by a virtual time study that doesn't give any time allowances for the things that it should such as, crappy idiotic loads, crappy idiotic dispatches, sort time, idiot dol's and edds that are all cut up, no time allowance for over 100lbs, I could go on all day about their shadiness and lies. The plan is built on what UPS says you should be doing..
not what you think you should be doing.
Believe it or not it keeps UPS making $$ and you & me working.
The law specifies whether you should get paid for your 30 minute lunch or not?
That's the weirdest combo I've heard yet.In our center it's a paid 10 minute break and 50 unpaid.

duplicateI love it when I see guys coming in 2 hours before their start time working through their lunch and doing the work of two men, I know that my pension is in good hands. The day I come in and see a building full of slackers running 2 hours over is when I'll be worried.
Department of Transportation says you cannot work more than 8 hours driving a CMV without having a consecutive 30 minute off-duty break.Record 25 minutes of break and 5 minutes of lunch. Bam, 30 minutes.

Stock market averaged about 3 percent since 2000.

That is so true Jumpman, all of our SPORH's include our 45-75 minutes sort times AND our paid breaks! Can you say "WTF"??? I refuse to look at their #'s anymore! And all the numbers for the routes are not based on any physical time study either, hence my point. But we are talking about long term numbers here (entire career at UPS). If you look at the total return on investment for the DOW or S&P for any 25 year period you will find that 8% anuall return is a very conservative number...(actually way to low) For example you would have averaged 10.27% per year over the 25 years prior to 2013 (in the broad market S&P stocks). Those 25 years were by no means stellar.
Here are the average annual returns for any 25 year period ending in 1994-2013
(1994...10.98%) (1995...12.22%) (1996...12.55%) (1997...13.07%) (1998...14.94%) (1999...17.25%) (2000...15.34%) (2001...13.78%) (2002...12.98%) (2003...13.84%) (2004...13.54%) (2005...12.48%) (2006...13.37%) (2007...12.73%) (2008...9.77%) (2009...10.54%) (2010...9.94%) (2011...9.28%) (2012...9.71%) (2013...10.27%)
For an median of 12.98% and an average of 12.43% average annual return.
USING THE HISTORICALLY MORE ACCURATE 12.43% AVERAGE RETURN means that one hour of overtime would grow to...
Your total is $8,018,341 after 35 years.
You can now see how conservative I was being in my assumptions.
An 8 million dollar pat on the back. Give them 10 minutes a day, and you are giving them 1.3 million over your career.

Actually....we do. Otherwise this topic wouldn't come up as often as it does.
I'd love to do that. I'd be dead by the time I woke up in the summer time with the back being over 120 degrees.Lunch time is nap time. UPS pays me to take a nice little cat nap. I have my spot in some shade, crack the rear door, hold the bulk head door half open with a hub snake, lay down some stalls bags on the shelf, find a soft bag, lay my towel over it, set my alarm and it's nap time.
Feel like a champ for the afternoon pick ups and final stops.
