That's why I brought up Ed Buck. He exclusively abused homeless, drug addicted people, because he has too much to lose. He has to use people whose lives won't be missed if something goes wrong.

He could mysteriously die in the hospital right now. Or he could simply take a plea deal. Lots of things might happen. But this man is not going to go to trial and have a right to discovery of evidence.
