Norwood, MA drivers told they are working Christmas Day

That excuse worked out real well for them last year didn't it?
UPS can control their habitual under-staffing and their unadulterated greed at the expense of their employees.

I would think hiring 95K seasonal employees and paying $130M in OT just for Black Friday shows that they were not willing to let that happen again.

Preload is working tonite , guarantee 8hrs at ot.
They predict only about 40,000 .And another 60,000 coming in on Sunday , no early start .
Also xmas evening is a normal day since the package cars are going out on Friday .

Amazed by all this Sat., Sun., and Christmas Day talk. Had breakfast this morning
from a driver in my old building, major east coast hub. Not working today, tomorrow or Christmas. Said it's been his best peak ever.
Couldn't be in better shape.

How can Christmas evening be a normal day when nothing is coming in. There won't be anything in the building
other than send agains or closings.

Just because we don't have xmass eve pickups , does not mean that the trailers stop coming in .
A major storm will be here 12-24 & 25 , most likely delaying some all ready inbound .

If there are no Christmas Eve pickups why would the trailers move? Trailers never move on Christmas Eve.
A major storm on the 24th and 25th won't delay anything.
Everything will be in on the morning of the 24th. No way you have a normal workday on Christmas night.

Not everything in the pipeline is for x-mass .
TOFC will still be functioning .

Doesn't matter what's in the pipeline. Trailers don't move on Christmas Eve. If you folks have a normal
workday Christmas night two things are going to happen. a) Your manager or sup is going to get fired because
b) you folks will be standing there with nothing to do. Good for you. Easy money.

We processed 14 loads this morning in our hub. That is a normal mornings work outside of peak. More work processed Sunday AM, too.

You guys need to be asking your management team why you are having to work today and tomorrow. Nothing but Sat air going out here today and no operations at all in my building tomorrow.

Obviously different areas of the country prepared better than others. Our building manager fought with the Union all year over under-staffing. We have all been working 11 to 14 hours a day all peak...60 hrs a week. Worse than last year!
Nearly all drivers forced Sunday (everyone is out of hours for Saturday).

Try as they might, UPS cannot control the weather.
Christmas happens every single year on December 25th.

The winter solstice occurs every single year between December 19th and the 22nd.

Winter weather typically starts occurring in mid to late November in many parts of the country, and has done so annually for the 150+ years that weather records have been kept.

Perhaps, someday, UPS will come to realize these facts and choose to plan accordingly instead of continually living in a state of denial.
